The (International) Premium Rate Service is a telephone service through which a caller can access information or entertainment via a special telephone number (in many countries prefixed with 900). For the international premium rate service, the “information” is typically provided in another country than where the caller is.

The caller pays a higher rate (a “premium”) for the call than for an ordinary direct dial call.

The money paid for the call is shared between the telephone companies carrying the service and the organisation providing the content, known as the Information Service Provider (ISP).
